The Alex Pro Firearms Hunter is a range of seven AR-type semi-automatics made in Alexandria, Minnesota. The company has assembled a dizzying array of products using several component formulas and variations thereof. Thus many of the parts described herein are also featured on other APF guns.

But back to the APF Hunter. Here we’ll focus on the 6.5 Creedmore caliber version, but the Hunter family also includes the following variants: 308 Hunter, 308 Hunter Sniper Green, 350 Legend 20” Hunter, 450 Bushmaster Hunter Gray, 450 Bushmaster Hunter and the Texas Edition 6.8 Hunter (which features a Texas flag color scheme).

On the 6.5 Creedmore, except the elegant stainless steel barrel, all else such as the different trim parts and fasteners, upper and lower receiver, muzzle brake, trigger, grip and butt stock is matte black.

The gun uses a LR-308 heat-treated nickel boron plated bolt carrier group that like all other Alex Pro components is Made in USA and machined to mil-spec quality and standards to ensure the highest manufacturing levels.

Hunter rifles are powered by a low profile rifle-length gas system. But the gun’s real focal point is its 22” long barrel made of 416 stainless steel bar stock. This type of stainless steel is very affordable and easy to work. Best of all, it gains strength as it is heated. The barrel has a medium contour and is beautifully fluted. The barrel’s twist ratio is 1 to 8” and in front is an A2 birdcage muzzle brake.

Surrounding the barrel is a 15.5” APF free-floating matte black handguard. It has the typical raised roof octagonal cross-section profile and MLOK slots in all eight directions. Atop the roof is a long gray Picatinny rail that continues nearly seamlessly over the upper receiver. Moreover, Hunters have a 2” accessory Picatinny rail one can attach all around the handguard.

At bottom center, is a single-stage trigger.

Bringing up the Hunter’s rear is a skeletonized Luth-AR MBA-2 butt stock. This is a base version of the MBA-1 fully-adjustable buttstock. The MBA-2 does not permits adjustment of cheek riser height and length-of-pull, but it is modular so that those components can be added later if needed. The benefit is that the MBA-2 costs about 70% less than the MBA-1, but still offers excellent ergonomics and ultra-modern looks.

The Luth-AR MBA-2 is made of glass-filled nylon and is 10 3/8” long. Moreover, it features multiple sling attachment points and even molded pockets for QD cups. All this, and it only weighs .7 pounds!

The grip is a MAGPUL MOE with aggressive texturing on the sides and horizontal grip serrations at front and back. The grip includes an integrated beavertail for increased comfort and has a hidden storage compartment accessed from its bottom.

With all this, the gun weighs 9.4 pounds.
