The Canik TP9 SF Special Forces is a full size 9 mm Luger or .40 S&W double-stack striker-fired semi-automatic pistol from Turkey that’s imported by Century International Arms (headquartered in Delray Beach, Florida) and tweaked at their manufacturing center in Georgia, Vermont. The 9 mm version accepts 15, 18 and 20-round magazines while the .40 S&W uses a 13-round mag.

The gun has two standard colors that cover the slide, frame and integrated grip panels. They are matte black and FDE. Otherwise, the two models are twins, and all the smaller parts like the sights and various buttons and bolts are black except where otherwise noted below.

The gun’s styling is decidedly middle-European. So the TP9 SF has a modern, high-tech design. The slide has a flat top. It’s cut down for the front two thirds and has long lateral bevels on both sides that connect to vertical flanks.

The Cerakoted slide has numerous diagonal grip serrations in back. Both front and rear sights are dovetailed into the slide, and they’re both by Warren Design. In front is a fiber optic sight and in back is a black out metal target sight.

The frame is tough, fiber-reinforced polymer. The back has a docked beavertail. For safety, this design has a trigger safety lever and a firing pin block. There is also a loaded chamber indicator visible atop the slide. And the slide stop is ambidextrous.

The gun’s barrel is 4.47” long, match-grade and nitrided for extended longevity. Overall length is 7.56”, height 5.71” and width is 1.30” in order to accommodate the double-stack magazine(s). Even then, weight is only 28.57 ounces.

This is a single-action gun. The nickel-plated trigger is clean-breaking and lightweight.

A three-slot Picatinny rail integrated into the frame graces the bottom of the recoil spring housing.

Moving back toward the grip, the trigger guard is a rounded corner rectangle with plenty of room for gloved fingers. There is a medium undercut at the back of the trigger guard while in front are horizontal serrations for intuitive feel. The magazine release is where you’d expect it: at the back of the trigger guard. It also has a rounded corner rectangle shape, and it’s reversible for left-hand users.

The grip is textured on the flanks and ribbed in front and back. It comes with both a small and a large interchangeable backstrap giving each person the ability to fit it as closely as possible per their own preference.

With the TP9 SF Special Forces, Canik has delivered an affordable high-content 9 mm compact striker-fired semi-automatic pistol.
