The Glock G18 9 mm Luger machine pistol is the select-fire fully-automatic version of the famous Glock G17. So what are the other differences? Nothing. Nada. Zero. There’s a select-fire switch on the slide’s back left. Rotate it down, and you can empty the standard 19-round magazine in a second or the optional 33-round magazine in 1.5 seconds. Other magazine choices are 17-round, 24-round and 31-round. All are double-stack magazines with counting holes.

The Glock G18C is the compensated version of the standard G18. G18C uses ports to help control muzzle flip.

The G18 debuted in 1987. Only about 100 are sold per year and only to police forces, but never to civilians. Specifications include its 4.49” long cold hammer forged barrel, 1.16” slide width, 1.34” overall width including the fire selector, 6.10” height and 6.50” sight radius for polymer sights. The steel sights have a smidge shorter 6.46” sight radius. Overall length is 8.03”. Trigger distance from back of the grip to the trigger is 2.83”. Weight completely empty is 22.05 ounces. Insert an empty 19-round magazine, and weight rises to 24.87 ounces. Include a loaded 19-round magazine, and weight is 33.16 ounces depending on ammo.

Like most other Glocks, the all matte black G18 is an understated study in functionalism. Lines are minimal and nothing is superfluous. The slide has a few vertical grip serrations, but there are none in the otherwise almost smooth front. There is a single-slot Picatinny accessory rail under the muzzle and recoil spring housing.

There are several sight choices: fixed polymer sights, adjustable polymer sights, white insert steel sights, luminescent steel sights or self-luminescent steel sights. The magazine catch is flat/rectangular, but an extended magazine catch is also available. Similarly, the slide stop can be standard size or extended size.

The trigger guard is squared with a slight concave curve to the front face and horizontal serrations across the same. The bottom of the trigger guard is flat until it hits the deep undercut at back. Inside is the Safe Action System safety trigger that utilizes a trigger safety that blocks the trigger from moving back until the safety is pulled. There is also a firing pin bar safety, drop safety and loaded chamber indicator.

The G18’s grip has three finger recesses, texturing on the sides and horizontal bands of raised textures on the frontstrap and backstrap.
