The “slimline” badging of the 6+1 capacity .45 ACP polymer-frame Glock G36 subcompact semi-automatic denotes single-stack instead of the common double-stack engineering Glock loves. The single-stack architecture houses a 6-round magazine. The G36 actually comes with a pair of those mags.

The reduced frame width spreads the calipers out to 1.13”. This makes it friendly to just about any size hand while still harnessing .45 ACP power. It also optimizes it for concealed carry portability.

The gun looks and feels like many other Glocks. It has the squared cross-section slide with vertical grip serrations in back. The grip also has a familiar Gen4 look common. Thus, it has a slightly concave and horizontally serrated front face to the trigger guard, two finger recesses on the frontstrap, finger grooves atop the grip, texturing on the sides and more.

The gun’s barrel is 3.78” long and has a 1:15.75” twist ratio. Weight without the magazine is 19.93 ounces. Toss in an empty magazine, and weight nudges up to 22.40 ounces. Load six rounds in the magazine and weight climbs to 26.81 ounces.

The G36 uses Glock’s own Safe Action trigger system with 6.3 pounds of factory-set trigger pull. The Safe Action system utilizes a trigger safety that blocks the trigger from moving back until the trigger is pulled. There is also a firing pin bar safety, drop safety and loaded chamber indicator. The trigger distance from the back of the grip to the trigger face is a user-friendly 2.95”, and trigger travel is .49”.

Other important metrics are as follows. Overall length is 6.97”. The slide is 6.77” long and only 1.0” wide! That the rest of the gun is only .2” longer is impressive and highlights the packaging efficiency and care Glock injected into the design.

The gun’s maximum width is just 1.18”, and that’s across the bases of the finger grooves atop the grips. The G36’s height with the magazine docked internally is 4.72”. The magazine base forms a finger rest of sorts.

The slide has three metrics for the sight radius. Using Glock Night Sights (GNS), the distance from front sight to back sight is 5.83”. Swap those out for steel sights, and the space between is 5.87”. Use polymer sights and sight radius increases to 5.91”.

So there you have it. The Glock G36 uses single-stack architecture to harness the iconic .45 ACP in something that’s great for conceal carry.
