The KelTec Sub2000 (also written SUB-2000) folding pistol caliber carbine and sub-rifle is offered in 9mm Luger (1:10” twist ratio) or .40 S&W (1:16”). It’s a great looking design and aesthetic masterpiece that’s a highly functional piece of engineering. A nice thing is the way the entire gun looks cohesive and designed by one company without outsourced components that are different in color, material, texture, aesthetic, etc. And the Cocoa, Florida-based manufacturer makes the KelTec Sub2000 in the USA.

You can get the Sub2000 as either the Glock SUB2000, which works with Glock mags while the “Multi-Mag” SUB2000 works with various 15-round and 10-round mags. You can also acquire the gun in olive grab, matte black or Coyote tan.

And then there is the impressive and clever functionality. For starters, the gun’s overall length maxes out at 30.5”, width is 1.25” at the grip, height is 7” and unloaded weight is just 4.25 pounds. Length of pull is 14.5”. It has a 3-position stock that attaches to a tubular steel receiver. Instead of lever-actuation, you simply remove the stock pin, set it to one of the new settings that are in .62” increments and then reinsert the stock pin. The three positions give a total latitude of 1.25”. Thus, overall length can collapse down to 29.25”. But the real magic is that the gun can be folded in half. No, this doesn’t have a folding stock, but rather a folding barrel for portability and/or stowage.

The forend has long top and bottom Picatinny rails. Then the 3 o’clock and 9’ o’clock sides have five M LOK slots each. The front sight is fully adjustable for windage and elevation. The semi-auto is powered by a straight blow-back system. The push-bolt safety is above and behind the trigger on the receiver. The grip is fancy impact modified glass reinforced Zytel. The grip, stock and forend all have Keltec’s trademark large rhombus checkering.

To fold the barrel, rotate the hinged trigger guard down and away from the pistol grip and trigger. That permits the barrel to be folded back and then docked against the stock. The folding is not to the side by above, which means the front sight ends up pointing down when the gun is folded up. That’s clever! Moreover, the gun can’t be fired in this position. Now, total length is just 16.25”. Incredibly, that’s also the length of the barrel. To achieve such perfect proportion clearly took extensive design experience from Swedish-American founder and designer George Kellgren.

The gun is threaded and comes with a thread protector. In 9mm guise, it has a 1/2"-28 thread while for the .40 S&W, the thread is 9/16”-24. Additionally, the stock has a single point sling loop and a longer slat sling loop for webbing and there is a small two-slot Picatinny rail on the heel.
