Some semi-automatics are concealed carry. Magnum Research’s White Tiger Desert Eagle decidedly is not. In fact, taking its names from two fearsome predators, it’s apropos that this gun is a beast. The White Tiger is simply a color scheme variant of the famous Mark XIX Desert Eagle gas-operated semi-automatic pistol. But it’s a breathtaking one at that.

That said, let’s first talk about the standard Mark XIX Desert Eagle. It comes in two calibers. There is a 7 round .50 AE and an 8 round .44 Magnum. In either guise, at the semi-automatic’s core is a long, powerful 6” barrel that results in an overall length of 10.75”. The height is 6.25”, so it almost looks like a very long barrel sitting on a short grip frame. With such a long slide, it’s no surprise that the sight radius is 8.5” long! In contrast, width is only 1.25”.

Atop the slide is a full Picatinny style accessory rail that starts just behind the front sight and runs half the gun’s length. The front features a four oval port integrated muzzle brake. The gun features fixed combat sights.

And below the muzzle is a second full Picatinny style rail. So anyone will have plenty of room for lasers and other accessories. A cotillion of serrations at back make the slide easy to grip. The long beavertail makes for better control and faster follow on shots.

The Magnum Mark XIX comes standard with ambidextrous safeties, all designed for optimized ergonomics. The trigger guard is slightly concave providing a finger rest and slightly echoing the curved trigger. Trigger reach is 2.75”.

The black grip pads are soft rubber though unusually, the grip’s front and back are smooth.

With the Mark XIX’s large size, high-quality materials and rich feature set, the gun is heavy. Even with an empty magazine, weight is an imposing 4.5 pounds (72 ounces). With such weight, Magnum has paid special attention to make sure the grip and frame intersect for ideal two-handed firing that’s comfortable and accurate.

The grip is anatomically formed and provides an ideal hand seating angle for two-handed shooting that’s fast, comfortable and accurate.

So now to the aesthetics. Its most visible standout feature is its White Tiger finish, which consists of an almost natural pattern of high-polish and matte stripes that cover the slide, frame including the beavertail and even the grip portions that are not covered by the grip panels.

This powerful gun has tight tolerances. Gaps are minimal. Different parts of the gun evoke other firearms. For instance the way the chamber tapers forward into the barrel is very late-19th century, even though this is a most modern gun.

It’s worth noting that this gun comes in a variety of finishes. White Tiger is just one. But there are two other “tiger” variants: a Black Tiger stripe and a Titanium Gold Tiger stripe. There are many other non-tiger variants as well.

Magnum Research’s White Tiger Desert Eagle is Made in USA like the rest of the Mark XIX guns.
