The Rock Island Armory Rock Ultra CCO 7+1 capacity .45 ACP with classic M1911A1 styling. It combines a 4.25” barrel with an 8” long Commander-length slide and a shorter aluminum Officer Grip aluminum frame. The result is a stylish, feature rich, easy to carry gun in a price-competitive package that’s 5.11” tall and 1.30” wide.

The slide is black Parkerized (anodized for wear and corrosion resistance) while the frame has a nice black oxide finish.

Dovetailed into the slide are an orange fiber optic front sight and an Italian LPA MPS1 adjustable rear sight. The Rock Ultra CCO keeps classic M1911 styling and thus has no under-muzzle rail.

The barrel is 6 groove button rifled with a 1 to 16” twist.

The hammer is a classic serrated skeleton loop. Underneath it is an elegant upturned beavertail and a grip safety. Nearby, the adjacent thumb safety is ambidextrous, while the magazine release and slide stop are on the left.

The Rock Ultra CCO has frame cutouts behind the trigger guard. There are vertical slide serrations at the back (but not the front), serrations on the thumb safety, slide stop and hatching on the circular magazine release button. So the main styling difference between this and classic M1911 are the wavy polymer G10 tactical grip panels in lieu of traditional double-diamond hatched grips. The CCO also has a lowered and beveled ejection port.

The trigger is beautiful, triple ported, has a 4 to 6 pound pull and has an adjustable over travel stop. The gun ships with two magazines. They’re an elegant black. But a nice touch is not only that they have counting holes, but that they form a diagonal line to echo the alignment of the bullets inside.

Rock Island Armory is a division of Armscor, which is short for Arms Corporation of the Philippines. It was founded in 1905 by two Englishmen as Squires Bingham & Company in the Philippines. The name changed to Armscor in the 1980s.

That same decade, Armscor set up operations in the United States and acquired Rock Island Armory, famous for making M1911 semi-automatic pistols. It set up its American headquarters at Pahrump, Nevada and later started making ammunition in Stevensville, Montana. And now, Armscor is the world’s largest producer of M1911 types. The Rock Island Armory Rock Ultra CCO .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol is Made in the Philippines.
