The classic rimfire Ruger 10/22 rifles offer something for seemingly every niche and desire. The groups include target, competition, tactical, compact, sporter, takedown, takedown lite and carbine. Maybe that’s why Ruger has sold over a million in the roughly five decades the 10/22 has been in production.

The heart of every Ruger 10/22 is the exemplary Ruger action. The 6-groove 1:16” RH twist barrels are cold hammer forged for accuracy and durability. These bed into the receiver using Ruger’s two-screw V-block. On top you’re find a Weaver/.22 Tip-Off combination scope base adapter. Ruger 10/22s ship both types of scope mounts.

The guns have a cross-bolt safety that’s part of the glass-filled polymer trigger housing assembly.

These guns have reliable flush-mount 10-round detachable rotary magazines that remove easily with the ergonomically placed magazine release.

There are dozens of Ruger 10/22 models, which is too many to call out individually. But let’s examine a few.

The .22 LR carbines have an 18.5” barrel, measure 37” overall. Combinations abound. For instance, one can get the gold bead sight and satin black barrel with a wooden stock (5.0 pound weight), black synthetic stock (4.4 pound weight). There is even an American flag motif stock with a 1/2"-28 TPI thread, thread protector, long Picatinny accessory rail, protected blade front sight and ghost ring rear sight (4.8 pounds). And there are plenty of others.

The roughly 16 different takedown models also have a 6-groove 18.5” barrel and measure 37” overall. There’s a recessed lever that locks/unlocks the barrel/forend assembly from the rest of the gun to make two subassemblies for easy transport.

There is a solitary matte-black (blued barrel) polymer stock compact model built around a 16.12” long barrel that weighs 4.4 pounds and has a 34” overall length.

There are three Target models, all sporting colorful composite stock with giant oversize thumbholes. One has a 16.12” barrel while the other two are 20” barrels.

The three 10/22 Competition models have numerous upgrades including their own unique stocks, 2.5 to 3.0 pound trigger pull BX Triggers, match bolts, match bolt releases, machined 6061 aluminum receivers and integrated 30 MOA Picatinny rails.
