The Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan bolt-action rifle comes in three models for three calibers: .375 Ruger (1 to 12” twist ratio, 8.1 pounds weight), .338 Win Mag (1 to 10” twist, 8.0 pounds) and .300 Win Mag (1 to 10” twist, 8.0 pounds). Regardless of model, all have a 20” barrel, 13.5” length of pull and 42” overall length, a front bead sight, an adjustable rear sight and a three round capacity.

All three have a stainless steel cold hammer forged barrel finished with Hawkeye Matte for extended durability and wear and tear protection. And in each case the barrel anchors into a black durable injection molded synthetic rubber Hogue stock featuring a straight comb and an integrated butt pad that minimizes felt recoil.

Not surprisingly, Ruger has put many well-thought out details into this gun.

The barrel is elegant. It’s fronted by a muzzle brake with a radial pattern of portholes to vent exhaust gases and reduce muzzle flip, providing faster follow on shots. The Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan also comes with a matching muzzle weight for when the muzzle brake is not needed. Moving slightly further back, a stainless barrel band has a bipod mounting stud. The forend and butt stock also have studs, though these two are swivel studs.

Let’s talk sights. The front sight is the aforementioned bead sight with a black anvil back on a ramped stainless base. Halfway toward to action is the rear sight. It’s a V-notch sight that’s adjustable for windage. It too sits on a ramped stainless base. There’s no accessory rail, but rather the stainless steel receiver has integrated scope mounts to bridge a scope above the bolt area.

Below this sits an LC6 trigger, designed for smooth, predictable operation, which leads to better accuracy.

In the middle of everything is a Mauser type feed extractor that feeds the empty cases to a fixed blade type spent casing ejector. At the bottom of the rifle between the forend and the wide trigger guard is a stainless steel hinged floorplate protected by a latch guard. Open the floorplate to effortlessly unload all the rounds at once.

A three-position safety sits behind the one piece round knob stainless steel bolt action. The stock is well shaped with a tactile pattern on both the forend and pistol grip.

While the stock and swivel studs are black, almost everything else is stainless. This includes the barrel, bolt, bolt knob, trigger, trigger guard, front and rear sight bases, radial muzzle port, etc.
