The Savage 93R17 bolt-action rimfire platform rifles are mostly built around a combination of .17 HMR chambered 21” heavy barrels, Savage’s rightfully very popular AccuTrigger and 5-round detachable box magazines.

There are some rather interesting outliers too, such as the new for 2020 Savage 93R17 Minimalist Brown chambered in both .22 WMR and .17 HMR. It ships with a wood laminate stock and a 10-round magazine. The barrel is only 18” long and has a ½”x28 thread; overall length is 37” and the model weighs 5.48 pounds. But let’s sally back to the lineup’s core features.

The Savage 93R17 21” barrels have a 1:9” RH twist. The guns come without sights, but their receivers are drilled and tapped. To make life easier for owners, two-piece Weaver-type bases are included. But others have choices such as bore sighted Bushnell 3-9x40mm scopes, adjustable iron sights or a one-piece scope rail that bridges the ejection port.

The Savage 93R17 bolt-action series features a plethora of options. This includes wooden or synthetic stocks, stainless steel or carbon steel barrels, Monte Carlo, thumbhole, tactical and other stocks, length-of-pull, barrel lengths up to 22” and right-hand or left-hand versions. It’s an impressive lineup that seems to offer something for just about anyone looking for something in .17 HMR.

Regardless of configuration or model, all these rifles have Savage’s two-stage AccuTrigger. Savage uses AccuTrigger on its guns for good reason. Among other things, it is user-adjustable across a pull pressure range of 2.5 to 6.0 pounds and prevents the rifle from discharging when jarred or dropped. There’s also a two-position sear-blocking safety lever that prevents the firing pin from striking the primer that’s located behind the bolt arm on the receiver’s right hand side.

Another outlying model is the 93R17 TR. It looks like an expensive tactical rifle, but, of course, as part of this family, it is impressively affordable. The tactical stock is actually made of black hardwood. The carbon steel barrel is 22” long, length-of-pull is 13.75” and overall length is 40”. The gun weighs 7.5 pounds, and it has three swivel studs.

Savage Arms is based in Springfield, Massachusetts.
